American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine is an institution dedicated to creating future generations of physicians that serve the communities they represent. Those communities are often underrepresented in the medical field and are reflected in the diversity of our student body. Founded in 2004, AUA has accomplished more than some schools have in decades. AUA leads the way in addressing the projected physician shortage, especially in the areas of primary care, family medicine, and internal medicine. Our world-class faculty places a premium on making themselves accessible to students and creating a learning environment in which hands-on training is the norm.

A brief look at some of AUA’s biggest achievements will give prospective applicants a boost of confidence about their decision to seriously consider AUA:

• AUA is approved, recognized and accredited by the U.S. Department of Education, the New York State Education Department, the Medical Board of California, the Florida Department of Education, and the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Sciences. We are one of only three Caribbean medical schools with these distinctions.

• AUA’s first time pass rate for USMLE, Step 1, the most important exam for U.S. and Caribbean medical students, is 96%.

• AUA has a growing network of 40 hospital affiliates across the United States and Canada.

• AUA has two groundbreaking programs with Florida International University (FIU). The Clinical Clerkship Certificate program makes it possible for students to complete all their core clinical rotations hospitals affiliated with FIU’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM), while the AUA-FIU Global MD program provides research opportunities, medical Spanish training, and focuses on the social determinants of health at home and abroad.

• Title IV (Federal) funding, Canadian Federal Loans, VA benefits, and scholarships are available to qualified applicants.

For students who are committed to studying medicine, passionate about serving their communities, and envision themselves responding to health care needs locally and globally, AUA is an ideal choice.
