Event Outlook and Vision.SOOTHE is a neo-soul event that seeks to bring not only sophisticated but forward-thinking individuals to a space that supports freedom of expression through the arts of music and spoken word.

The event, now in its third year of existence is progressing as envisioned along a 5-year course of evolution. The first year served to define and set the tone of the event which we are proud to say has secured a spot on the social calendar of our supporters. Years 2-5 are building years which we anticipate will see the likes of regional and international spoken word artists and musicians renowned in the neo-soul genre of music.

As promised last year, a wide cross-section of the Business community target market were present at the event and future years promises to be no different in that regard.  Patron’s Experience. The patrons of SOOTHE have been treated with the music of Aubrey “Lacu” Samuel and the Cutting Edge Band, Just Soul, Ms Daina Barnes and more.

An important part of the experienced offered by SOOTHE is the art of Spoken Word Poetry. Our poets were a big hit in our previous years and are highly anticipated for all upcoming events.

To further enhance the Spoken Word treat we were happy to bring to the event Jo’rell “Lyrical” Whitfield out of New York, USA.

This par 71, 18 hole championship course is set within Cap Estate East Development. It is 6829 yards of sprawling green slopes, dotted with attractive ponds, swaying palms and ancient tropical trees. It is challenging yet extremely aesthetic.

The elegant clubhouse greets guests with arched windows and the sheer grace of classic Caribbean plantation architecture. The 20,000 square feet offers spatial locker rooms and other luxurious guest conveniences. The five star restaurant features a fusion of international and Caribbean cuisines that can be enjoyed in the casual al fresco comfort of with the added ambience of a soft tropical breeze as experienced on the expansive veranda overlooking the course.

The St. Lucia Golf Club offers perhaps the most challenging 18 holes of golf in the Caribbean. While this undulating par-71 only plays 6,685 yards off the Blues, the course attracts a USGA rating of 74.3, taking well into account the strong winds, numerous water hazards, fast greens and 16 out-of-bounds which we hope you will not encounter during your round. Our 20,000sq ft clubhouse is situated just 5 minutes from Pigeon Island and Rodney Bay, and within 30 minutes of any hotel north of Castries. Aside from the conveniences of a full driving range, golf carts and Callaway rental clubs/shoes, you will also enjoy the amenities of our drinks cart, well-stocked bar, pro shop and full service restaurant. Nature lovers will also be inspired by the natural splendor of the course and the wildlife that lives on it.

The late Dennis F. Nardoni, then President and CEO of Cap Estate St. Lucia Ltd. and major investor on St. Lucia was the man with the Vision. His busines interests and investment holdings were diverse and involved real estate developments, high end condominium developments, as well as hotels and restaurants throughout Illinois, Florida and the Caribbean.

In the late nineties, Dennis; a keen golfer, saw Cap Estate in its entirety and immediately decided that this area and St. Lucia were to play a major role in his future. He knew that with the right investment and development he could bring success to this area and create a lasting legacy.

His first accomplishment was the redesign of the St. Lucia Golf Course, turning nine (9) holes and 120 acres into an eighteen (18) hole championship golf course envied throughout the Caribbean golfing world.

Team Antigua is currently four guys who fish and sail together here in Antigua and who are planning to be part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in the winter of 2017/18. However, there's much more to it than just that. Eli Fuller approached three long time friends a month ago with the idea of organizing a team and they all immediately confirmed that they were interested. In fact, they had all seen arrivals of other teams this year and in years before and had all talked about the prospect of doing it. Before approaching the guys, Eli had gotten some major encouragement from various people to keep the momentum going from the Team Wadadli Atlantic Rowers campaign. One potential sponsor eventually made an offer that started the ball rolling.

At this point, the new team is still in the info gathering stage and is making all the important decisions which will steer their campaign along the way to the start of the event in the Canary Islands in December of 2017 through to their arrival in Antigua early in 2018.

The guys have decided that they want to be very competitive, so that is a big part of the overall goal. However, winning the #twac2017 isn't what the team is only about though. Team Antigua wants to have a strong environmental message and to use their Atlantic rowing campaign and eventually their successes as mechanisms to both create awareness about and to raise money for environmental conservation. Especially marine conservation.

Each of the guys works in the marine environment and relies on the health of Antigua and Barbuda's natural resources. They all care deeply about marine conservation and environmentalism. They feel that each person can make a difference, and they know that this campaign can accomplish so much to create awareness of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of our nation's marine ecosystems. They understand the dangers of the challenge but have always lived lives seeking adventure, and they feel that this is adventure and sacrifice is not just for them but for everyone following and more importantly it's for the greater good of future generations of Antiguans and Barbadians.

Each potential member of this new team could be described as fiercely driven and competitive. In fact, all have been involved in competitive sports and wild adventures at sea. Each of them is more comfortable at sea than on land and tiny boats in rough seas are nothing new to them. This team is made up of some ideal ingredients to make them a real contender for the #twac2017.

The new team knows that they can't possibly accomplish this on their own. Team Wadadli's success was not just because of four incredibly strong men. It started that way, but their success was boosted by a group of undercover men and women working behind the scenes to promote the team and to help them raise money for their charity.

Team Antigua wants "the team" to not only be comprised of four rowers, but equally as important, it has to be made up of a strong and well organized shore based group of men and women. Dr Fuller sometimes talks about just how much work it was for him and laughs saying that the easy part was the rowing! It takes a huge amount of time and resources to get to the start line well prepared and then there's the fundraising and constant media PR, weather reporting, and other admin that goes on when the rowers are at sea.

This effort is in its genesis and has quite a bit more development to go through before they can say that Team Antigua is ready for business. It's all coming together though, and we can tell people that after extensive research on boat designs and manufacturers, phone calls, emails and face to face meetings, we have decided not to order a new boat, but rather to purchase Dr. Fuller's Team Wadadli boat. He always intended that WA'OMONI stay in the hands of Antigua and Barbuda, so this will be great to see the boats legacy continue. This boat is a very competitive design and was the same design used by Team Ocean Reunion to win the TWAC2015. Having it here gives us the opportunity to immediately start training without having to wait for one to be built and shipped.

Team Wadadli is showing a film very soon (announcement imminent) which shows their epic 3000 mile journey across the Atlantic. After this showing, Team Wadadli will hand over the torch to Team Antigua and our in water training will commence.

As we're still getting ourselves started, we've decided to wait until our first row before we introduce the team. All sorts of things can change in a campaigns infancy including team members.

The Academy is funded by donations from individuals, groups and businesses, both in Antigua and overseas as well as creating revenue from our various activities both on & off the water.
It was founded in 2010 and, for the first four years, operated from the Antigua Yacht Club.
By February 2014, we had moved, and become operational, at our new Headquarters in Dockyard Drive, English Harbour. It was necessary to have our own premises so that we could aim at becoming financially sustainable, over a period of time – rather than remain totally reliant on charitable donations.

By 2016, we have upgraded the rental accommodation in The Lodge’ and are now benefiting by the income from short term lettings. We also now have a scuba-diving school onsite, DiveCarib, as well as our ‘Academy Cafe’

We have increased capacity for schools at our H.Q. and, together with our satellite branch in Jolly Harbour, have capacity for over 150 children a week learning to sail.
We have installed 200ft of floating dock for our own boats and also offer reasonably priced long term dockage to boats with a draft up to 6ft. We have also installed a concrete slipway to a depth of 4ft and can offer haul & launch facilities for power boats and ribs. Sailing lessons and dinghy hire as well as kayaks and paddle boards are available for hire.
The Academy has 3 racing Keelboats – Cork 1720’s – and these are available for hire as well and for racing charters. In Antigua Sailing Week 2014, one of our 1720’s was 2nd overall in the Yachting World Round the Island Race (46 boats entered) and 2nd in class – by 15 seconds.
In July 2014 we gained accreditation as an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) dinghy sailing centre, and be able to offer their certified courses which are recognized worldwide.
In addition to the watersport activities, we hold various social events, such as our very successful seated concerts, and welcome enquiries for the hire of the venue for parties, weddings etc. Our one acre of gardens and ample parking make this the ideal site for a range of events.

All of the above are undertaken with the aim of not only paying our overheads of rent and wages etc. but to make enough profit, over time, to fund the free programmes for the sailing lessons for Antiguan schoolchildren and the ‘Sailability’ programme for the disabled children and adults of Antigua. (See relevant page of this website for info).

Donors making standard contributions will be added to our roll of ‘Friends of the Academy’ and those making larger donations will be listed as ‘Sponsors’ of the Academy’ both onsite and on our website.
We plan publish a periodic Newsletter informing of our progress. Meanwhile we will be delighted to answer any questions about the Academy and also welcome visitors to our locations in English and Jolly Harbours.
